Porcelain Crowns That Protect and Restore
When a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or weakened after a root canal, a porcelain crown covers and protects what is left. We shade-match each crown to the teeth around it so it blends into your smile.
When a Crown Makes Sense
A crown is usually recommended when a filling alone can no longer hold a tooth together.
- Cracked or fractured teeth
- Teeth with large, failing fillings
- Teeth treated with a root canal
- Badly worn or misshapen teeth
- Covering a dental implant
What the Crown Process Involves
Many crowns take two visits. At the first, we shape the tooth, take impressions or scans, and place a temporary crown. At the second, we fit and adjust your permanent crown.
- Local anesthetic keeps the tooth numb
- A temporary crown protects the tooth in between
- Shade matching to your neighboring teeth
- Your bite is checked and adjusted before you leave
- Brushing, flossing, and checkups help it last
Learn more on our porcelain crowns page, or ask about crowns at your next checkup.
Dental Implants for One Tooth or a Full Arch
Dental implants replace missing teeth from the root up. A small titanium post bonds with the jawbone and supports a crown, bridge, or denture that stays in place when you eat and speak.
Implant Options We Offer
Dr. Keith plans every implant case with three-dimensional imaging so the post can be placed where the bone supports it best.
- Single implants topped with implant crowns
- Implant-supported bridges for several missing teeth
- Implant overdentures that snap into place
- All-on-4 full-arch implants
- Implants planned alongside an extraction
What Implant Treatment Involves
Implant treatment happens in stages over a few months, because the bone needs time to bond with the post.
- Consultation, exam, and 3D imaging
- Any needed groundwork, such as treating gum disease
- Placement of the implant post
- Healing, often three to six months
- Attaching your final crown, bridge, or denture
Sedation is available for implant surgery, and we are in-network with Delta Dental, bill most other PPO plans out-of-network, and offer Cherry and CareCredit financing.
Porcelain Veneers for a Brighter, More Even Smile
Veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of your teeth. They can cover stains that whitening cannot lift, close small gaps, and even out chipped or uneven edges.
What Veneers Can Fix
Veneers change the shape, color, and length of the teeth that show when you smile.
- Deep stains that do not respond to whitening
- Chipped or worn front teeth
- Small gaps between teeth
- Teeth that look short or uneven
- Mild crowding in some cases
How We Plan Your Veneers
Good veneers start with planning. We talk through the look you want, check your bite and gum health, and choose a shade and shape that suit your face.
- A cosmetic consultation and photos
- Conservative preparation of the tooth surface
- Custom veneers made to your plan
- Bonding and a careful bite check
- Routine checkups to keep them looking good
Veneers are one part of cosmetic dentistry at our Hillcrest office, along with whitening, bonding, and smile makeovers.
Dental Bridges to Fill the Gap
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring a false tooth to the teeth or implants on either side. It restores your bite and keeps neighboring teeth from drifting into the gap.
Types of Bridges
The right bridge depends on how many teeth are missing and the health of the teeth around the space.
- Traditional bridges supported by crowns on neighboring teeth
- Implant-supported bridges that do not rely on natural teeth
- Bridges that replace one tooth or several in a row
- Porcelain shaded to match your smile
- Options compared side by side with implants
Caring for Your Bridge
A bridge can serve you for many years with the right home care and regular visits.
- Brush twice a day around the bridge
- Clean under the false tooth with a floss threader or water flosser
- Keep up with checkups and cleanings
- Avoid chewing ice and other hard objects
- Call us right away if it feels loose
Not sure whether a bridge or an implant is the better fit? We will walk you through both at your consultation.
Root Canal Therapy to Save an Infected Tooth
When the nerve inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed, root canal therapy removes the damaged tissue, cleans the canals, and seals the tooth so you can keep it. Many patients find it feels much like getting a filling.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
Some infections cause obvious pain, while others only show up on an X-ray. Call us if you notice any of these signs.
- Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
- Pain when you bite down
- Swelling or a pimple on the gums
- A tooth that has darkened
- A deep cavity or crack
What Happens After Treatment
Root canal therapy relieves the infection, but the tooth still needs protection afterward.
- Mild soreness for a few days is common
- Over-the-counter pain relievers usually help
- A crown often protects back teeth after treatment
- Normal brushing and flossing resume right away
- A follow-up visit confirms the area has healed
Saving your natural tooth is often simpler than replacing it, so do not wait if a tooth is bothering you.
Gentle Tooth Extractions When a Tooth Cannot Be Saved
We always try to save a tooth first. When that is not possible, a careful tooth extraction relieves pain and protects the teeth around it, and we plan what comes next, such as an implant or a bridge.
Keeping You Comfortable
Using three-dimensional imaging and computer-guided planning, we map out the safest approach before the procedure begins. Local anesthetic numbs the area, and sedation is available if you feel anxious.
- Imaging shows the roots and nearby structures
- Local anesthetic for every extraction
- Nitrous oxide, oral, or IV sedation if you prefer
- Wisdom tooth removal
- Planning for an implant or bridge afterward
Healing at Home
You will leave with written aftercare instructions, and we are a phone call away if you have questions.
- Bite on gauze to control bleeding
- Rest and avoid strenuous activity for a day or two
- Skip straws and smoking while the site heals
- Stick with soft foods at first
- Call us if pain or swelling gets worse
A well-planned extraction sets you up for a comfortable recovery and a smooth path to replacing the tooth.
Tooth-Colored Fillings That Blend In
Cosmetic fillings repair cavities with a tooth-colored composite resin instead of metal. The material bonds to the tooth and is shaded to match, so the repair is hard to spot.
Why Patients Choose Tooth-Colored Fillings
Composite fillings fix decay while keeping your smile looking natural.
- Shaded to match your natural teeth
- Bonded directly to the tooth
- Often needs less drilling than a metal filling
- Can replace older silver fillings
- Usually completed in a single visit
What to Expect at Your Visit
Most fillings are quick and comfortable.
- The area is numbed with local anesthetic
- The decay is removed
- Composite is placed in thin layers and hardened with a curing light
- The filling is shaped to fit your bite
- You can eat once the numbness wears off
Catching decay early keeps fillings small, which is one more reason to keep up with regular checkups and cleanings.

Frequently Asked Questions
How soon can I go back to work after a dental procedure?
Most patients return to work the same day after routine procedures like fillings or cleanings. For more complex treatments, we at Sunrise Dental Arts provide specific recovery guidelines and flexible appointment scheduling to minimize disruption to your workday. We’ll help you plan the best time for your procedure based on your personal schedule.
What makes your office different from a corporate dental chain?
As a local practice in Hillcrest, we focus on building lasting relationships rather than meeting corporate quotas. Every treatment plan is created specifically for you, without pressure to accept unnecessary procedures. We take pride in serving our San Diego community and see our patients as neighbors rather than numbers.
How long should I plan to stay for a routine visit?
We schedule 60-90 minutes for routine cleanings and check-ups to ensure thorough care without rushing. This allows time for a complete cleaning, exam, and any questions you might have about your dental health. For new patients, we recommend planning for a two-hour visit to complete initial paperwork and comprehensive examination.
Can I preview changes to my smile before treatment?
Yes. During a cosmetic consultation, we take photos of your smile and talk through how options like veneers, whitening, or bonding could change it, so you can decide with confidence before any treatment begins.
Do you offer sedation options for nervous patients?
Yes. Along with local anesthetic, we offer nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. We will talk through your comfort level and health history and help you choose the right option.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. New patients are welcome at our Hillcrest office. Call (619) 291-2980 or request an appointment online, and our team will help you find a time that works.
Do I need to arrive early for my first appointment?
If you complete your new patient paperwork which is available online here then you can arrive at the time of your appointment. If you would like to complete the paperwork at the office then please arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, and credit cards, are in-network with Delta Dental, bill most other PPO plans out-of-network, and offer financing through Cherry and CareCredit. Our team can verify your insurance before your visit, or you can visit our Payment Options page for details.
How often should I visit the dentist?
It is important to schedule routine checkups and cleanings to keep your teeth and gums healthy. It is recommended by the ADA to visit the dentist at least once every six months. Contact us now to book your appointment and take the first step toward optimal oral health!
