A smile makeover is a treatment plan that combines two or more cosmetic or restorative procedures, done in a set order, to change several things about your smile at once. It suits people whose concerns overlap, such as teeth that are both stained and chipped, or crowded and worn, where fixing one problem alone would leave the others standing out.

At Sunrise Dental Arts in Hillcrest, Dr. Andy Keith plans and completes every step of a makeover in one office. He starts with what you want to change, checks your teeth, gums, and bite, and then shows you which of our cosmetic dental services belong in your plan and which ones you can skip.

What Goes Into a Smile Makeover Plan

Every makeover is built from individual treatments, and the plan is what ties them together. Dr. Keith decides what to include by looking at your teeth one at a time and as a group, then at how they sit with your lips and face when you talk and smile.

Treatments Often Combined

Most plans draw from the same short list. What changes from person to person is which treatments are used, on which teeth, and in what order.

  • Porcelain veneers: veneers reshape and recolor front teeth that are chipped, worn, uneven, or spaced.
  • Teeth whitening: professional whitening lightens the natural teeth that will stay uncovered, and it usually comes first.
  • Dental bonding: bonding repairs small chips and gaps with resin, often on teeth that do not need a veneer.
  • Porcelain crowns: crowns cover teeth that are cracked, heavily filled, or too worn for a veneer.
  • Clear aligners: aligners move crowded or rotated teeth first, which can mean fewer teeth need veneers later.

Some plans also replace missing teeth with dental implants or swap dark metal fillings for tooth-colored fillings so every visible surface matches.

Beautiful woman smile.

Why the Order of Treatment Matters

Sequencing is the part of a makeover patients rarely think about, and it changes the result. Whitening goes before veneers, crowns, or bonding, because those materials keep the shade they are made in. Aligners usually come before veneers, because straighter teeth often need less enamel removed or fewer veneers overall. Gum disease and cavities are treated before any of it.

A study in the International Dental Journal, archived by the National Library of Medicine, notes that the way people feel about their teeth can affect them socially, and that treatment should rest on clinical need and a careful look at what the patient expects, since dentists and patients often judge a smile differently. That is why Dr. Keith asks what you want before he tells you what he sees.

Our Sunrise Dental Arts Care Process

Initial Consultation

Dr. Keith looks at your whole smile, including the color, shape, and position of each visible tooth, your gums, and your bite, and reviews your health history. You tell us what you want to change and anything you want to keep.

Customized Treatment Plan

Your plan lists every treatment in the makeover, the teeth involved, the order of each phase, and the cost. Whitening usually comes early so later restorations can be matched to it, and aligners come before veneers when straightening is part of the plan.

Implementation of Treatment

Each phase is completed in the agreed order. Local anesthetic is used whenever a tooth is prepared, and nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, or IV sedation is available for longer visits or if you feel anxious.

Aftercare & Maintenance Tips

Each phase comes with its own care instructions, such as limiting dark drinks after whitening, wearing aligners for the recommended hours, or avoiding hard foods on new bonding and veneers. We check in between phases to make sure you are comfortable.

Follow-Up

Once the makeover is complete, regular checkups let us inspect every restoration, polish bonded and porcelain surfaces, and plan touch-ups before small wear becomes noticeable.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Smile Makeover

You may be a good candidate if more than one thing bothers you about your smile and you want them handled in a coordinated way rather than one appointment at a time. It also suits people who have put off cosmetic work because they were not sure which treatment applied to them or where to start.

Your gums and teeth need to be free of active disease before cosmetic work begins, or the plan treats those problems first. If you clench or grind, we account for it, since veneers and bonding can chip under heavy force and a night guard may become part of the plan. Same-day consultations are often available.

Frequently Asked Questions About Smile Makeovers

How is a smile makeover different from getting veneers?

Veneers are one treatment. A makeover is a plan that may include porcelain veneers along with whitening, bonding, crowns, or aligners, chosen tooth by tooth. Some patients find that whitening plus bonding on a few teeth gets them where they want to be without veneers at all, and Dr. Keith will tell you if that is the case for you.

How long does a smile makeover take?

The timeline depends on which treatments are in your plan. A makeover that combines whitening and bonding may be finished in a few visits, while a plan that includes clear aligners or porcelain veneers takes longer because teeth need time to move or restorations need to be custom made. We map out the full sequence during your consultation, so you know what to expect at every stage.

How much does a smile makeover cost?

Because every makeover is built from a different combination of treatments, there is no single price. Your cost depends on how many teeth are involved and which procedures you choose. After your consultation, we give you a clear breakdown, review your insurance benefits, and explain financing options such as Cherry and CareCredit.

Will my new smile look natural?

That is the goal of every plan we design. We shade and shape each restoration to suit your face and blend it with your natural teeth, so the result looks like your own smile at its best rather than obvious dental work.

Can I get a smile makeover if I have gum disease or cavities?

Yes, but we treat those problems first. A healthy foundation is what helps cosmetic results last, so any decay or gum disease is addressed as part of your overall plan before cosmetic work begins.

Do I have to complete my smile makeover all at once?

Not necessarily. Because every plan is sequenced step by step, treatment can often be spread across phases that fit your schedule and budget. We will talk through the order of treatment with you and adjust it around your priorities.

Schedule Your Smile Makeover Consultation at Sunrise Dental Arts

Because cosmetic and restorative care happen in the same Hillcrest office, you will not need to coordinate between offices to finish your makeover. Dr. Keith lays out the sequence and cost of each phase before you commit. We are in-network with Delta Dental and can bill most other PPO plans out-of-network, and financing through Cherry and CareCredit can help with the parts insurance does not cover.
